Match Trivia
The Rangers played their third match in the Lancashire district during their New Year tour by meeting the famous Rovers on their ground at Blackburn, The previous games between these two clubs show very even if any superiority on either side though the Rovers have a better record. There were not more than 2000 spectators present. Sowbutt kicked off at 2.46 and after a slight play on the part of McIntyre (Rovers), the home team broke away and Walton had an easy chance, but failed. McKenzie then showed good form and a shot from his foot called upon Sutter to use his head and Lawrie shot over. Arthur was next called upon to save and in doing so had give away a corner, of which nothing was made. Both teams then took up the attack in turns but the Rovers were soon in front of goal Turner and Forrest alone being consciously by their good play. Douglas now had the Rangers goal at his mercy bur Cherrie rushed across the ground and kicked the leather out. Lofthouse next had a chance and Chalmers caught the shot and the Rangers retaliated without any success and at halftime neither side had scored. On resuming the Rovers had two corners upon but they were poorly taken. Chalmers was next called upon to save through a warm shot by Walton. Play now became somewhat lively; Fecitt broke away and passed to Walton who made a great attempt, the ball just going out. The Rangers next had a corner and the Rovers goal was in great danger, the ball however got away and the home team took the attack, but nothing was scored and at the call of time the match was drawn neither side scoring.
