Match Trivia
Played at Dalmarnock Park and after a pleasant game resulted in favour of the Rangers by four goals to one. The Thistle forwards at once by a fine piece of combined play rushed the ball over the Rangers lines. After the kick-off from goal the Rangers attacked the Thistle goal and obtained a corner kick but without result. The play was afterwards confined to midfield till the light blues settling down came away and from a centre by Pringle the ball was neatly put through by Thomson. After the kick-off from midfield the Thistle got into the Rangers dangerous proximity to the Rangers goal but the defence was very effective. The goal was relieved and the visitors had a splendid run to the opposite goal where after a scrimmage the ball was placed between the uprights by Watson. The ball was again set in motion and the Rangers soon gave the home goalkeeper some hot work but the backs cleverly relieved the pressure and the front division by judicious passing and a clever piece of dogging by Hamilton made an inroad on the Rangers territory where after a slight tussle the ball was put through the goal by McKinlay who thus secured the first and only point for the Thistle. At halftime the game stood tow to one in favour of the Rangers. When the ball put in motion the Thistle forwards assumed the offensive and nearly equalised matters but the brilliant tactics of Reid at back quite out-manoeuvred them and the ball landing neatly in midfield from his foot was cleverly taken up by Pringle who passed it on to Gossland. The last mentioned centred to Thomson who finished the run by scoring the third point for the Rangers. The Thistle forwards now determinedly set to work and wrought the ball down to the Rangers fortress where some fine tackling was shown by both sides for four or five minutes before the Rangers could get the goal relieved during which the Thistle almost scored. The pressure was ultimately relieved and for some time the play was confined to midfield with a considered run on either side. Taylor and Hamilton for the Thistle has several good runs and got within shooting distance bur were always tackled in the nick of time by the opposing backs. The Rangers now began to press their opponents, the passing being all that could be desired and from a scrimmage in front of goal Pringle neatly landed the fourth score for the Rangers. The play to the final was now of give and take nature each side in turn pressing their opponents but without further result. It is but right to state that the Rangers were minus the services of Chalmers, Hamilton, Inglis, McGregor and Cameron.
