Match Trivia
Played on the Vale ground. Two special trains one from Glasgow and another from Dumbarton were crowded. The numbers around the ropes must have exceeded 5000. After thirty minutes play the Vale scored their first goal and before halftime had added another. In the second half the Vale were soon at the Rangers goal but it was only for a moment as McHardy and Christie started a good run in which the other forwards took part and bearing all before them they received their first corner. It was well managed but failed to gain any success. From this time the game for 30 minutes took a turn and was much in favour of the ‘light blues’. About seven minutes from the finish Johnston succeeded in passing the backs and having the goal at his mercy scored the third and last goal for the Vale. When time was called the Rangers were busy at the home goal but it remained intact the Vale thus winning by three goals to none. The game was very hard and fair but owing to the soft state of the ground the nice points of the game were a wanting. A very good feature of the game was the absence of any unfriendly feeling or quarrelling.
