Player Profile - Gregor Stevens (1979 to 1984)
Manager John Greig splashed out £150,000 to bring Gregor back to Scotland in September 1979 following a spell at Leicester City (he had started his career with Motherwell).
Gregor’s debut came in a 3-1 win over St.Mirren and he would go on to make 39 appearances during that first season, his first goal coming in March 1980 in a 1-0 win over Dundee.
A Scottish Cup Final defeat to Celtic would deny him silverware but he managed to go one better the following year, playing in the victorious side who defeated Dundee United after a replay (Gregor started both games).
However, he would then struggle to achieve an extended run in the side. A big part of this was due to suspension with Gregor receiving a 6 month ban on March 8th 1982 following his dismissal in a FRIENDLY with Kilmarnock in the which the unfortunate Killie player sustained a leg break. His disciplinary record left something to be desired and the authorities came down hard on him.
In all, Gregor would make 92 appearances scoring 4 goals. Sent out on loan to Hearts at the start of 1984, Gregor left Rangers at the end of that season.
