German born midfielder Gedion made his Rangers debut at the age of 18 in a thumping 5-0 League Cup win over Airdrieonians at the Excelsior Stadium.
A season long loan signing from Arsenal, Gedion come to the attention of the English side whilst playing in USA (where he had emigrated in 2005).
Zelalem certainly fitted the profile of Warburton’s ‘total football’ philosophy, he was talented on the ball, always trying to play with his head-up and seeking to pick out a forward pass. The over physical nature of Scottish Football was far less compatible with his slight frame but, at Scottish Championship level, the midfield trio of Halliday, Holt and Zelalem were able to produce some good moments during the early part of that 2015/16 season.
His ice cool composure during the Scottish Cup semi-final penalty shoot-out victory over Celtic was certainly to be admired for such a young and inexperienced player. Whilst the Final would prove to be a massive disappointment on what was his farewell appearance, young Gedion did return to Arsenal with a Championship winners medal having played his part in the journey back to the top flight of Scottish Football.
In all, he made 27 appearances for the Club.
Gedion’s career appears to have stalled somewhat following his release from Arsenal.
