Match Trivia
The Rangers New Ground – the following is a description of the Rangers new ground at Ibrox to be opened on Saturday :- The ground is enclosed on all sides with a new departure in palings at once, novel and effective, viz, galvanised and corrugated iron sheets, fixed to strong wood framing about 8ft high, making it almost impracticable to get over, the sheets being sharp at to and smooth on outside surface, thus giving no foothold or hold for hands in climbing. In front facing Copland Road, there is three large, and one small gate, and it is the intention that spectators procure their tickets at the pay-boxes, which have half a dozen windows opening on to the road and then hand them up in passing the stiles at large gats, and thus saving great confusion at them. Small gate is for the use of members only. To the right or north side of ground on entering is situated the new pavilion, placed at an angle on the corner of the field, thus commanding a full view of the ground. On this side is also placed the grand stand. House is 36ft long and 28ft wide, with a spacious veranda in front, supported on ornamental cast iron columns a neat iron railing being fixed round the edge between the columns. The floor of the veranda is raised above the level of the ground about 18 inches, the ground having a gradual rise from the edge of the track, and is laid with chequered tiles, with a stone coping round the edge and neat stone steps in front. The walls, where seen below the coping, are finished with white enamelled bricks, which give a fine appearance. The interior of the main part of the house is divided into two apartments for home and visiting teams respectively, having a row of wood benches round each, forming seats, and at the same time being useful for putting clothes down on. At the back of the house there are, two roomy bathrooms, each fitted with the ‘Braby’s’ improved spray, baths, one of each team, one W.C. with all the most modern appliances lavatory, with a row of handsome tip up and wash hand basin and having a door leading into each of the large room which each team can use it. There is also a committee room connected with the home team’s apartments that has a back entrance, and is intended to be used for the taking in of monies, etc from pay boxes, and for the holding of committee meetings. The whole of rooms are fitted with gas brackets of new design, and of course the house is supplied with water from main, and is all drained on the most approved principle in construction of house care has been taken by Fry and Co that material is all of the best description. The interior is all lined with wood and floored, and the exterior is fitted out with their ‘Express’ brand of galvanised and corrugated iron sheets, with ornamental cast iron gutters and pipes the water from these being carried off to sewers between sheets and wood lining a layer of patent inodorous felt has been placed, which will keep the house cool in summer and warm in winter. An ornamental cresting of ridge and wood barge boards on gables gives house a nice feel. We may also state that owing to height of house from ground at back it being built to suit formation of ground there is very good cellarage extending over area of house which it is intended to use for storage of bicycles, etc at the back of the house a long felt, want in football and cricket is to be being supplied – via, a public drinking fountain a grand stand is over 300 feet long, and is formed of the seats, capable of holding 1200 spectators. The contractors for the stand pavilion originated palings, gates and all wood and iron work Messer Brady & Co (Limited) Glasgow.
