The opening match of the above clubs was played on Burnbank, the ground of the former, and after a keen contested game resulted in a tie – each club securing one goal. The day being all that could be desired a large number of spectators turned out to witness the game which appeared to give general satisfaction to judge from the repeated bursts of applause the players were treated to. The play of McNeil, Campbell, McBeath and Vallance (captain) for the Rangers were remarkably good. For the Vale McLintock, McIntyre and Paton played splendidly.
