At Cathkin Park, Glasgow estimated attendance 17,000 drawings (gate and stand) £388. Rangers were the cleverer side on the fast ground, but the liveliness of the ball was too great for even the most experienced to properly control it. Half way through the first half Richardson took a pass from McIntosh and scored a good goal, and it was not until ten minutes from the interval that McPherson equalised from a centre by Smith. Early in the second half Richardson just missed scoring, while at the other end Galt struck the bar, and Bennett hit the upright. Eventually Gordon put his side a head, but shortly afterwards McFie equalised. The game had a sensational ending Gordon scoring the winning goal in the last minute
