Match Trivia

This Glasgow League match, played at Cathkin Park before several thousand spectators. Shortly after the start the Rangers had a goal, which was disallowed, the whistle having been blown previously for a foul, and one also for the Third for offside. On the whole the play was even in the first half. From a siege oh the Third’s goal, one of their backs unfortunately sent the ball through how own goal, scoring the first point for the strangers. The plat was not particularly brilliant, but it was up to the average standard. The Rangers had the best of it, as was proved by the corner’s that came to them, but they were weak in front of goal. Peddie and Blair eventually made some progress for the Third, and getting a corner Blair centred well, but the ball was ultimately headed past. At halftime the Rangers led by 1 goal to 0. On restarting McPherson tried a long shot, but the ball went past the post. McAllan threw away a corner to the Third, but Blair placed the ball badly, and no advantage was gained. Oswald had a capital run for the Rangers, but he was tackled by Bowman while shaping to put the ball through. From a capital run by the whole of the Third forwards, the ball was passed out to Blair who however with a clear field shot past. A minute later Peddie made no mistake, and banged on the equaliser. The Rangers kept up a hot attack, and scored the second and leading goal well out of the custodians reach. The game was well contested to the close, the Rangers putting on a third goal, and the game was beyond doubt. The Result was – Rangers 3 goals: Third Lanark 1 goal.
