Match Trivia
At Cathkin Park before 15,000 spectators. Playing with the wind, the Rangers were not long in finding their way towards Milne, a good run on the left giving Low an opening, but Milne cleared a beautiful shot from the right-winger. Gillespie and Beveridge cleverly got round Drummond, Hannah spoiling a likely opening by shooting high over the bar. Beveridge was prominent with some neat touches, by means of which he led Glen and McCreadie astray, but Gillespie finished in extremely feeble fashion, his centre landing at Smith feet, and the back put the ball out of danger. Hamilton went off on one of his stock runs, with the backs in full cry after him. He got in a fast slow shot, which Milne caught, but could not hold, and in the succeeding melee Gardner struck the ball with his hand. The referee at once granted a penalty kick, and Hyslop made no mistake with it, the Rangers being one u after 35 minutes. Shortly after the Rangers got a corner, but this was cleared and then Gillespie showed Glen a clear pair of heels, the right winger’s centre going a begging for want of someone to cap it. There was not much to choose between either side, and each goal was threatened in turn. At halftime Rangers led by one goal to nothing. The second half was very evenly contested until about 20 minutes from the finish, when a shot from Smith struck Gardner’s foot and went through. Hamilton added a third goal, the final result being – Rangers 3 goals: Third Lanark 0.
