Match Trivia
The engagement was an Inter-City League one, and the attendance numbered 2000. The turf was in fine condition. The Third started with a good pass, and were early at Dickie’s goal, where they were unsuccessful. Good all-round play was the order, and both custodians were repeatedly asked to save. Third scored first by Lambie, and after 20 minutes equal play the Rangers rattled in three goals quickly Smith taking tow and Hyslop one. At halftime the figures were – Rangers 3: Third 1. On crossing over the Third simply walked through the Rangers, and Gillespie scored. A minute or two later McPherson scored a fourth goal for the Rangers. After this the teams were equal in respect of merit, play ruling fast. Near time Lambie scored with a lovely shot, which gave Dickie no chance. Keeping up the pressure, a fourth goal was netted, but the point was disallowed for offside. Still confining the Rangers, the equaliser was scored on the eve of time, and the result was a draw of 4 goals each
