Match Trivia

At halftime the Rangers were leading by 1 goal to nil. In the second half the referee ordered J McPherson of the Rangers, to leave the field, and as the Rangers players seemed unwilling to resume the game was stopped. The spectators howled, and cheered according to the bent of their sympathies, but notwithstanding the explanations of the players the referee remained pointing to the pavilion. H McCreadie was later on ordered off. The result was three goals each. As the referee left the field he was set upon by the crowd and assaulted. The police closed in upon him, and assisted by several Third Lanark players, he was taken into the pavilion. The crowd assuming an aggressive attitude, the police drew their batons, which had a deterrent effect. Two men were however arrested.
