Match Trivia
At Ibrox Park, Govan, the weather was magnificent, and fully 4000 spectators were present. Losing the toss the Sunderland kicked off. They at once made tracks for Haddow, and within a couple of minutes Campbell scored their first goal. From the centre kick the Rangers took up the running, and Doig had several shots to negotiate. He was able for his work, but as last Boyd equalised. The Rangers continued to have the best of it, but they could not increase their score. Miller had to retire after coming in contact with Drummond. Halftime result – Rangers 1 goal: Sunderland 1 goal. The second half opened vigorously with the Sunderland attacking. The Rangers defence was equal to the calls made on it, and they managed to repel the invasion. Then the Rangers had an innings, but their shooting was rash and they close several chances. At this stage Miller returned to the field. Play continued very fast and the ball travelled rapidly from end to end. Each team had a corner, but neither were successful in increasing the score. Boyd had an opening, but the chance was lost, Doig getting on the ball ere the Ranger could manage up. No further scoring took place. For the Rangers Haddow, Gibson, Marshall, McPherson and Barker were best; while Doig, Meechan, Gow, Hyslop and Hannah were the pick of the Sunderland. McCreadie was completely outclassed. Result – a draw 1 goal each.
