Player Profile - Daniel Stoney
Still three weeks shy of his 17th birthday, Daniel Stoney made his Rangers debut during a Scottish Third Division match versus Clyde at Ibrox in April 2013.
With significant injury problems to contend with, manager Ally McCoist named winger Stoney and central defender Luca Gasparotto on the bench for the first time. Both players would be called into action with Stoney replacing Fraser Aird on the 84th minute. Rangers, already crowned Champions, were leading through a 55th minute goal from skipper Lee McCulloch. Maximum points were secured in the final minutes, Kyle Hutton making it 2-0 against Jim Duffy's side.
His next outing versus Peterhead was less memorable, Rangers slumping to a second home league defeat of the campaign despite McCulloch having once again opened the scoring. By now trailing 1-2, Daniel replaced David Templeton with just over 20 minutes remaining and the youngster went close with a shot that dipped just over the crossbar. A last gasp save from former Gers keeper Graeme Smith prevented McCulloch from netting his second and the Blue Toon survived to earn a famous victory.
Daniel's third and final appearance for Rangers came in the penultimate match of 2012/13 as East Sirlingshire were defeated 4-2 at Ochilview. Storey was introduced to proceedings on 73 minutes when he replaced Rangers top league goal scorer for the season, Andrew Little.
Stoney represented Scotland at Under 15, U-16 and U-17 level. On leaving Rangers, he had a brief spell with Junior side Johnstone Burgh.
