Match Trivia

While there was no mistaking which was the better side in the points tussle at Hampden Park last night, the lowly St Mirren put up a capital fight all the way. They only succumbed to the champions’ full strength (bar Bowie) by a grand goal banged through Meiklejohn twenty minutes after the start. Although facing a breeze and strong sun, St Mirren quite held their own in the first half. Robb had to effect two fine saves from Lawson and Stewart. After the interval the Rangers had decidedly the pull, but Bradford refused to let anything more pass him. The old Morton custodian was in great fettle, as Henderson, Cairns and Cunningham could all testify. Prominent in a plucky Paisley defence, which included no ‘dud’ turn, were Bradford, McAllister, Duff and Pringle. Duff did specially well. The forwards were very smart at times. Cunningham was easily Rangers’ best forwards, while Manderson, Meiklejohn and Dixon excelled behind. Nine thousand people attended
