Match Trivia
The Ibrox team made their first visit to Paisley this season and met the St Mirren at Westmarch. There were only five of the St Mirren regular team playing, but the Rangers were well represented. The Rangers started the game amidst a downpour of rain, and play was continued in midfield for several minutes, when a pass from Wylie enabled D Gow to score. The Saints retaliated, and for a few minutes pressed the Rangers very keenly, and E McBain taking possession of the leather in midfield put it at the feet of ‘Jones’ who with a swift shot compelled Nicol to concede a corner. Although not succeeding at first, the Saints tried again, and this time with success. Dunlop making a good run along the left, and watching his opportunity, passed to ‘Jones’ who equalised the scores. The Rangers now began to play most energetically, and Cameron had to show all he knew to keep his charge intact. At length however the pressure was relieved, but the Rangers were soon back at their opponents goal, and D Gow kept sending in stinging shots upon Cameron for some time, but the custodian kept matters right for his team. Pretty even play followed, and halftime was called leaving the score one goal each. The second half opened well for the Rangers, who soon were swarming round the St Mirren goal. Allan made a swift run and shot the leather between the posts, but offside was claimed and granted. A foul was obtained against the Rangers a few yards from their goalmouth, but the was sent wide, and the strangers took the aggressive. Some hard play followed, the Rangers pressing very hard, but the fine defence of Cameron at goal could not be beat. A good run by the Rangers right wing raised their follower’s hopes, but E McBain got the ball away. McHardie gave a corner against his side. The kick was taken by Gow, but Cameron fisted it out, and before the ball was got away Marshall put on a second goal for the Rangers, followed by D Gow putting on a third goal for the Glasgow team. A hard game ended – Rangers 3 goals; St Mirren 1 goal.
