Match Trivia
This fixture took place on Saturday afternoon at Love Street Ground Paisley, in presence of a record crowd of spectators. The Rangers started, and for a time play was pretty even. Then the St Mirren took up the running, and put in some very strong work. McNeilly, Chalmers and Wylie were especially prominent in the attacks on the Rangers goal, but although they played exceedingly well, the Ibrox defence was too strong for their efforts. With about a quarter of an hour to go, the Rangers succeeded in scoring the first goal of the game from McPherson, who easily sent the ball past Patrick after it had been back-heeled by Hamilton. The St Mirren tried very hard to get even, but could not do so, and at halftime the score remained – Rangers 1 goal: St Mirren 0. The second was if anything in favour of the home team, who after about 20 minutes gone, put on the equalising goal from Chalmers. The play was keenly contested after this, both teams scoring in quick succession, but both points being disallowed on the ground of offside. Latterly towards the end of the game, the Rangers took the lead by scoring from Miller. The Saints although playing hard to the end, could not make up the extra point, and a hard fought game resulted – Rangers 2 goals: St Mirren 1 goal
