Match Trivia
The first of the top two ties in the Edinburgh Exhibition Cup competition was played last night in the sports enclosure in fine weather and before fully 9000 spectators. The opening favoured the St Bernards, but gradually the Rangers superiority told, and a couple of corners were forced. St Bernards then retaliated in a promising manner, Logan causing Rennie to handle. At that stage they had as much of the game as the Rangers, and after Gilchrist had struck the crossbar with a ‘header’ Shand as the other end narrowly missed the net. A raid by the Rangers ended in smith sending in a hard shot, which Ramsay was fortunate to save. Then St Bernards once more took up the running, but Noble spoiled the move by careless passing. At halftime there was no scoring. On resuming Ramsay had to save thrice in five minutes, but on St Bernards getting away Noble had a fine try, which struck the crossbar, and went over. Some fine play by Rangers forwards was equally well frustrated by Herron, and then Ramsay came to the rescue when a corner was forced. In the next attempt to clear a corner the Saints goalkeeper missed his kick, and the ball going over to Livingstone, that player scored. Until the end the finer play of the Rangers told on the Second Division team whose defence was sorely taxed. There was no more scoring however and the game ended – Rangers 1 goal: St Bernards 0
