Match Trivia
A crowd estimated at 8000 assembled at Logie Green, Edinburgh to witness this League fixture. The Rangers kicked off, and immediately attacked, but Arnott saved. The St Bernard’s cleared with a clever rush, and the Rangers goal had a narrow escape. Play for some time was confined to the forwards, after which the home team got into position, where they kept up a most exciting siege for a time. The home backs were seldom called upon, but they worked their share beautifully, and Arnott was deservedly cheered for a brilliant save. At length the Rangers got down, but Steel in an attempt to improve a rare shot from H McCreadie, enabled Lindsay to clear when a goal seemed almost enviable. A prolonged attack upon St Bernard’s goal brought to a close by McPherson sending in a fine shot, which struck the net post, and the game relaxed into one of a quiet nature. Scott made two clever attempts to net the ball under adverse circumstances but failed. Open play followed, and then the St Bernards forwards, strongly posted near their opponents goal, got a splendid opening. Oswald, Crossan and Dobbie each got a chance to score, but even their united efforts proved fruitless. Scott had another try, and the ball on this occasion was just reached by Haddow, who saved cleverly at the cost of a corner. Clever passing by the Rangers forwards nearly resulted disastrously to the St Bernards, but their defence seemed impregnable. Halftime no scoring. Play in the second half was slow. The home team continued to have the best of matters, but were soon handicapped through the loss of Scott, who met with an accident. Brady was hurt in a similar fashion, but he was able to play to the finish. The St Bernards made several attacks. Their shooting however was miserably poor, and they failed to get the ball through. Result – A draw – no scoring.
