Match Trivia
At Logie Green Edinburgh, at the time of the start there was only a fair attendance. The Rangers started the game, and for a time play was open. The Saints got away, but a foul against them relieved a dangerous attack on the Rangers goal. Paton and Cleland carried the ball to the Rangers ground, where they met with a strong defence. The game was now very open, but the Rangers had rather the best of matters, but met with a fine defence. The forwards kept up the pressure with rather neat passing play, and at length McPherson chanced a shot, which proved effectual. A run after the kick-off, by the Rangers right looked again rosy, but offside was claimed, and the Saints worked well to the other end. They were however stopped, a foul hindering their progress. Rather neat passing by Stewart, Miller and Oswald got the ball into the net, but the ball was brought back. Wilson and Paton got away, but Stewart stopped them, and with a single run he nearly had the ball through. The game continued to be of an open nature, but a foul gave the Rangers another opportunity. The St Bernards forwards led off with a fine pass from Cleland to Brown, and the latter to Wilson who equalised. Halftime result – St Bernards 2 goals: Rangers 1 goal. The St Bernards began this half well, and forced Drummond to give away a corner. The Rangers retaliated however, Crawford and Gibson giving their side opportunities, Miller afterwards succeeded in equalising the game. After some very even lay, Brown scored the leading goal for the Saints. The home defence was taxed very much after this, and Miller again scored. Not long before time the visitors took play right to the front of Sneddon, where Smith headed the ball into the net. Result – Rangers 4 goals: St Bernards 3 goals.
