Match Trivia
Played on Copland Park Govan before 3,000 spectators. The Rangers kicked off and the ball was soon in the vicinity of the South Western goal. It was returned at once however and confined to Rangers ground for sometime. T Vallance indeed came to the rescue on one occasion just as the ball had been dangerously centred and he managed to get it away in time. There were the preliminaries in what it was apparent was likely to be a tough game; and so it turned out the players on both sides working vigorously alternative runs rewarding their exertions. There was not much to admire in the play however although on both sides a little passing was indulged in. Forty minutes of this kind of work and no foreshadowed a draw, but the South Western forwards had at this time the ball near the Rangers goal and in a lively tussle before the post the leather was kicked through. Drinnan whose leg was badly cut retired from the contest and the Rangers were left with ten men. They rushed at the ball immediately after the kick off and getting among the forwards the South Western goal was surrounded and the ball passed through before many movements were made. Time was called after this. In the second half the play resembled that of the first 40 minutes of the tedious half and it was not till the Rangers got a throw in on the left wing near their opponents goal that they scored again. On the ground that the ball was not thrown in straight the South Western players protested but the goal was allowed. No other change took place and the Rangers won by two goals to one. The Captain of the Southern team however again protested against their second goal before leaving the field and the matter will likely become before the committee of the Association. Young for the Rangers played magnificently throughout the game and was of the greatness service to the team. Pringle and Hill too were very active in the forward’s ranks. Miller and Heggie played hard for the South Western team and as a club the players have improved greatly this season. South Western protested that prior to Rangers winning goal that the throw-in wasn’t straight as the law at that time required. The protest was upheld.
