Graeme Smith (2007 to 2009)
Goalkeeper Graeme Smith signed for Rangers in the summer 2007 and provided valuable back up to both Allan McGregor and Neil Alexander in what was a memorable 2007/08 campaign, a season in which the Club came agonisingly close to securing 4 major trophies.
Graeme would find himself on the substitutes bench during both the UEFA and Scottish Cup Finals.
Smith’s sole first team appearance came in the 6-0 Scottish Cup victory over East Stirlingshire on 23rd January 2008.
A product of Kilmarnock’s youth system, he would graduate to Killie’s first team having gained experience whilst on loan to both Queen’s Park and Stenhousemuir.
On leaving Rangers, Smith joined St.Johnstone as their No.1 before injuries saw him lose his place in the first team. Following a brief spell with St.Mirren, Graeme headed North to sign for Peterhead in 2012 and would spend 5 enjoyable years at Balmoor.
During his time with ‘The Blue Toon’, Graeme would line up against Rangers in the final of the 2015/16 Challenge Cup at Hampden as Mark Warburton’s side lifted the trophy with a comfortable 4-0 victory.
Smith’s playing career came to an end in 2018, latterly turning out for Raith Rovers in League One.
Graeme returned to his boyhood heroes where he is currently the head of academy goalkeeping coach. He holds his UEFA ‘A’ and Goalkeeping ‘A’ licences.
