Match Trivia
The first of this season’s League fixtures in the Vale of Leven was played on Saturday at Renton, when the home eleven met the Rangers on Tontine Park. This is the first match, which the senior Renton team has played at home since their case with the Scottish Football Association was settled. Although comprising several former veterans, there was a good few fresh men in the team who had yet to win their laurels. The Rangers in contrast looked much the heavier of the two, and all through proved themselves a good combination. The game opened with a brisk attack by the light blues on the home goal, and if Lindsay had not saved with more then usual agility the Rangers would certainly have scored earlier. A swift shot by Kerr at last took effect. Hannah at back and James McCall and Brady on the left wing played hard to avert defeat, but they were overmatched, Hay and Hodge at back, and Muir and McPherson on the left wing being grand pairs. Muir put through a second point before halftime. In the second period Renton shown better form, but their right wing was weak, and Hannah was badly partnered. Owing to this the strong forward combination of the Rangers could not be broken up. McPherson scored a third point for the Rangers. Not discouraged Renton went into it harder than before, and not only gave the Rangers backs hard work for a time, but snatched a solitary goal of McBride. Just on the call of time Muir, with a ‘header’ registered a fourth goal for his team. Result – Rangers 4: Renton 1.
