Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox Park, Govan before 2000 spectators, the ground was very heavy owing to the heavy rail fall in the morning. Losing the toss the Vale started the game against the wind. The Rangers forwards at once settled on the ball, and inside of eight minutes scored twice. Those reverses seemed to make the Vale renew their efforts to score, but they could not get past the centre of the field. Meanwhile the Rangers front rank, were getting in some clever play. Corner after corner fell to them, but all were fruitless. Ultimately Hislop notched a third goal by a quick shot. The Vale only had the ball twice over the Rangers line in this half. Although aided by the wind, the Vale team showed little improvement in the second half. The Rangers, as in the first half, were early at their opponents citadel, which Hislop lowered for the fourth time after five minutes play. After this the Vale broke away, but they could not pass Gow and Hodge. D Bruce and Mills were conspicuous on the left, but their effort were unavailing. Meanwhile the Rangers tried shot after shot, but all went wide. Just before the close they had the ball through, but the referee gave no goal owing to offside being claimed.
