Match Trivia
The tie between Vale of Leven and Rangers in the Charity Cup competition was played on Cathkin Park, Glasgow, last night, and resulted in favour of the Vale of Leven by one goal to nothing. The match was witnessed by about 3000 spectators. The game was keenly contested throughout, but at times what seemed to be unnecessarily rough play was indulged in. At the opening the Rangers had slightly the best of the encounter, Forbes and Whitelaw at back prevented the ball from getting dangerously near the visitors goal. From a corner kick a Vale forward scored the only goal of the match by breasting the ball between the posts when the game was half-an-hour old. The remainder of the first half was in favour of the country club. The game in the second half forty-five minutes was stiffly contested. The Rangers tried hard to score, and a number of shots just missed taking effect, and on the whole the leather was more frequently at the Vale goal than at the other end of the field. On several occasions however the Vale almost succeeded in increasing their lead. The forwards of the winning team played well together, and supported as they were by the back division, they worked with effect. Forbes as normal kicked with judgement, and he was ably assisted by Whitelaw. Of the Rangers the two juniors, Cook and Campbell, justified their selections, and Pringle worked well for his side, McIntyre and Cameron never played better and Gow was very sure at back.
