Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox Park, Govan before 2000 spectators. Neither team was fully represented. The Vale lost the toss, and Paton kicked off. McFarlane got the pass and tried a shot, but he sent the ball behind. The Rangers got away with the goal kick, and Barker sent in a nice pass, which McBain converted into a goal for the ‘light blues’. Keeping up the pressure, the Rangers left wing was again prominent, and Barker with an overhead shot scored their second goal. Two minutes later Law cleverly scored a third goal for the Rangers. The Vale next had a try, Cowan and Logan being prominent. They gave Kerr a chance to score, but that player’s effort was saved by Haddow. The Rangers again pressed severely and obtained several corners, but all were fruitless. At this stage of the game, Paton the centre forward of the Vale had to retire after colliding with Scott. When he got into the pavilion Dr Barras found his collarbone broken. The Vale consequently had to finish the game with ten men. Halftime result - Rangers 3 goals: Vale of Leven 0. The second half was only a few minutes old when Law notched a fourth goal for the Rangers. The same player put on a fifth goal shortly after. The game was now all in favour of the Rangers, and but for the able defence of T Wilson they would have scored repeatedly. He got every assistance from Hutchison and Busby. The only forwards who made any progress on the Vale side was Cowan and Logan, but they were seldom dangerous. In fact Haddow only touched the ball three or four times during the progress of the second half. Ultimately Kerr put on a sixth goal for the Rangers, and just before the close A McCreadie scored the seventh goal. Time sounded immediately after. Final result – Rangers 7 goals: Vale of Leven 0
