Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox Park, Govan, before a fair attendance of spectators. The Thistle lost the toss and kicked off. A run by the Rangers left nearly had the desired effect, but Deans cleverly saved. Play was now confined to midfield for some time. Gradually the Rangers began to press, and Wilkie, McCreadie and McKenzie, and a scrimmage ensuring the ball was rushed through by the Rangers. The Thistle now wakened up a bit, but they could make no progress against the strong defence of the ‘light blues’, Reid in goal got scarcely anything to do. Halftime sounded with the score – Rangers 1 goal; Thistle 0 goals. After a short interval the game was resumed, the Rangers as in the first half doing the pressing. Fifteen minutes had gone ere McFarlane by a good shot beat Deans for the second time. Two minutes after, from a pass by Allan, McFarlane was enabled to put on the third point for the Rangers. Nettled at these reverses, the Thistle strove hard to improve their position and began to do some of the pressing. Twice in succession they obtained corner kicks, from the last of which they were successful in scoring their only goal after a short scrimmage. Nothing further was done, and the result was – Rangers 3 goals; Thistle 1 goal.
