Match Trivia
The semi-final tie between these teams was played at Ibrox Park before about 12,000 spectators. The Rangers had wind and sun behind them in the first half, and in the first few minutes they had several good tries at goal, but they were met by a splendid defence. A breakaway by the Third’s left pair ended in Buchanan scoring, the Rangers defence making several bad misses. From this onwards the Rangers had the better of the exchanges, and Cameron from a centre by Smith equalised. Even play followed but no further scoring took place in this half. Halftime result - Rangers 1: Third Lanark1. The Rangers were a much better balanced lot in the second half against the wind, and Hamilton was shoved off the ball when he had the goal at his mercy. Rough tactics were resorted to. Campbell and Robertson both went lame, but despite this handicap the Rangers more than held their own, and when McPherson scored their second goal the result was practically settled. Up to the close the game was very fast, but no further scoring took place. Result – Rangers 2 goals: Third Lanark 1 goal
