Match Trivia
Only two matches were played in the Scottish League competition on Saturday. Looking to the fact that there were two cup ties in the city, the presence of 10,000 spectators at Ibrox was a bit of a surprise. But the spectators got value for their money, for they saw the Third Lanark set up a defence which has not been bettered down Govan way this season. Both teams had a few changes. The Rangers had their latest recruit McDonald of Raith Rovers on the right, and the Third Lanark gave a trial to J McIntosh, a junior back from the Petershill. It is idle to compare the respective forward division, for the reason that the Third Vanguard was rarely in evidence. At half the Third trio were as effective in defence as Galt, Stark and May were in the assiduous feeding of their forwards. Ferguson gave Spiers but little rope, and he repeatedly saved Brownlie by blocking shots from the Rangers centre at the right moment. McFie was again the best Ibrox forward. Campbell and Jackson kicked well, while McIntosh came out of his trial with flying colours if he displayed the tricks of the novice in his general play. Brownlie kept a splendid goal, while Newbigging was seldom tested
