Match Trivia
These two clubs having been drawn against each other in the first round of the ties, played off at Kinning Park on Saturday afternoon in presence of about 3,000 spectators. Both teams showed great changes in their personnel, the Volunteers especially so. The Rangers winning the toss played with the sun at their backs, but there was no advantage of wind. In twenty minutes the Rangers made a goal, but the play during the first half was very even, the strangers if anything having the best of it. In the second half the ball had been started only five minutes when the 3rd L R V made a goal. It was thought that the match was going to end in a draw, but in the course of a scrimmage the Rangers scored a second goal and as nothing more was done the match ended in favour of the Rangers by two goals to one. The feature of the play was the goalkeeping of Gillespie and the admirable game played by Kennedy of the 3rd who showed that he was as good as when he was repeatedly chosen to represent Scotland in the International.
