Match Trivia
For the fifth time this season this season these clubs were in the field together on Saturday at Kinning Park. Victory for the most part has been on the side of the Rangers and the last struggle between the clubs only confirmed the former successes of the ‘Light Blues’ the game resulting in their favour by three goals to one. Two minutes from the opening of the play the 3rd L.R.V. after some warming work, pressed the ball through their opponent’s goal posts. The Rangers responded with a vigorous run on the left wing, and Gossland in this effort as in others afterwards came very near scoring. Within the next twenty minutes he skilfully centred to Cook who had little difficulty in kicking a goal. The state of the game was thus equalised, through as a matter of play, the 3rd L.R.V. had had the best of it so far, notwithstanding the fact that the Rangers had a good deal of help from the wind. Two minutes from the taking the last goal Gossland again shot in the ball. It was in beautiful line, but seemed rather high and so puzzled the goalkeeper that he could not keep it from dropping just under the bar. The Volunteers had two corner kicks after this and the Rangers had one later, but nothing more was done before the first half was over. In the second part of the match the game was fast enough, but neither side held and distinct advantage for long, the play shifting rapidly from one end of the field to the other. When the time was nearly run out the Rangers got their third goal from a shot sent in from the left wing by Gossland and headed through by McKenzie. Immediately after setting the ball in motion a player on the Volunteers side got clear away with the ball and got it past the Rangers goalkeeper, but the other man was off-side and the point was not allowed. Nothing else like a scoring point was made before the match closed.
