Match Trivia
This match was played at Ibrox Park, Govan before 2000 spectators. Beautiful weather favoured the meeting. The Rangers lost the toss, and kicked off against wind and sun. For the first fifteen minutes play was very even, each goal being assailed in turn. Woodburn and Crossan were putting in some good work for the Third. Their efforts were fruitless, however. Kerr of the Rangers, got away on the left, and after a brilliant run, he finished up by scoring the first goal for the light blues. Ten minutes later Blyth, from a pass by Kerr, put on the second goal for the Rangers. At halftime the score was Rangers 2 goals: Third Lanark 0 goals. The second half was resumed with vigour. Ere two minutes had gone Scott scored a third goal for the Rangers with a fine long shot. The Third nettled at their reverses, redoubled their efforts to improve their position. After a good run on the left Crossan cleverly put on the first goal for the Third. Rangers next obtained a corner, which proved fruitless. From a penalty kick the Third obtained their second goal A Thomson taking the try. From this till the close play was hotly contested. No further scoring took place. Kerr and Law were in splendid form for the Rangers, while W Thomson and Woodburn were most conspicuous for the Third. Final result Rangers 3 goals: Third Lanark 2 goals.
