Match Trivia
Losing the toss the Rangers kicked off towards the east goal. They at once bore down on Doig, and a smart shot from Boyd nearly beat the Sunderland man. He cleared with an effort, but the light blues kept up the pressure, and Meechan conceded a corner. The kick came to nothing. Gibson with a rattling kick, transferred play to the other end, where Haddow had to look sharp, and save a shot for Harvie. Both teams were putting in some grand work, each goal being assailed in turn. The Sunderland came away in a body, and Gillespie sent in a scorcher, which missed by a foot. The Rangers backs were having a hot time of it at this stage, but they stood well up to their work, and kept their goal intact. Smith in particular was showing much smartness. At halftime neither team had scored. In the second half within a couple of minutes, Harvie scored the first goal for Sunderland. From a combined run McPherson equalised. A minute later Miller scored the second goal for Sunderland, and just on the call of time the Rangers equalised from a corner, McPherson sending the ball through. The result was a draw – 2 goals each.
