Match Trivia
The return fixture was played during a tremendous storm of wind and rain on Ibrox Park, in site of the inclement weather fully 6000 persons witnessed the game. The Saints with the aid of the breeze quickly asserted themselves, and but for marvellous saving by Dickie would have scored in the first minute. As it was only two minutes had elapsed when Hamilton headed the ball past Dickie. The Rangers defended pluckily for a time, and after settling down they equalised through MacDonald. The Saints continued afterwards to have a greater say in the game than their opponents, and but for Dickie, and a good share of luck to the Rangers, would have further increased their score ere halftime, which arrived with the score at 1 goal each. Wilson who had been forced to retire shortly before halftime owing to an injury to his head resumed shortly after the restart. His presence was required as the Rangers began by attacking most aggressively. Walker scored after a free kick. The play, which followed, was mostly in favour of the Saints, and after the home goal had escaped miraculously on several occasions Lindsay brought the score level with a hard shot from short range. The visitors played well in the teeth of the gale and a blinding rain and narrowly missed beating Dickie more than once. The Rangers on the other hand showed poor play with the breeze, and were lucky to emerge from the contest unbeaten. Neil had to retire about twenty minutes from the finish with a sprained ankle. Result – A draw – 2 goals each. Drawings £183 11s, £41 2s 3d of which came from the stands and enclosure.
