Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox Park, Govan before 5000 spectators. The Ibrox forwards came away with a rush and in a minute they got a corner. The ball was well placed and McPherson with a quick shot scored the first goal for the Rangers. A couple of minutes later McPherson scored with another smart shot, and the Rangers were two goals up. Play was very fast, each goal being assailed in turn. The Saints were looking very dangerous, when a foul against Mullen brought them up. A fine run by Cowan followed, and at the right time he centred. Goldie in trying to save unfortunately kicked the ball through his own goal. Three for the Rangers. The Saints retaliated and from a miss by Drummond, McLean scored their first goal. This success seemed to nerve the Saints to redouble their efforts. Five minutes had barely gone when Goldie atoned for his previous mistake by scoring a second goal. Halftime result – Rangers 3 goals: St Mirren 2 goals. The second half had a sensational opening. The Saints came away with a rush, and Taylor scored the equalising goal from a pass by Mullen. This reverse took the Rangers by surprise, but they at once settled down to improve their position, when Cowan scored the fourth goal, the ball going through off Goldie. The game was splendidly contested till the close, but there was no further scoring, and the Rangers won by 4 goals to 3.
