Match Trivia
That the Saint Mirren eleven are ‘braw fechters’ on Ibrox Park was again demonstrated on Saturday, when they repeated last year’s League performance in drawing with their more fancied opponents. From the outset the visitors, backed up admirably by their halves, and led forward by Husband, looked as dangerous as they were eager, and nine minutes from the opening Clements raised a wild cheer among the men of corkscrew fame by catching up a cross from the left, and driving over Lock’s right arm into the net. Hardly had the centre kick been taken when Grant, at the other end, was forced to kick clear with several opponents bearing down on him. Play continued to run on ding-dong lines until Bennett guided a centre from Smith, right into goal, and Grant, missing his punt, was beaten and the game equalised. The second half was fought in grim fashion throughout, but while there were many exciting passages, there was little good football shown on either side. Towards the close Rangers put forth valiant efforts to snatch a victory, but all they succeeded in was an offside point from Smith. For Rangers McKenzie impresses one as a likely back, although his tackling was slack at times. The home halves were much less effective than were the visiting trio, who allowed the Ibrox forwards no rope. The estimated attendance was fully 16,000
