Match Trivia
Calculating and cold Football, thats what it was. Rangers in a kind of mood that brooked no opposition, Ibrox fans revelled in it. As a neutral, I found it a trifle wearisome too one-sided. Try as they did Saints defence were left shorn of any idea how to stem the ride. This Rangers quintette in front has all the marks of thoughtful players. How skilfully they dovetail into each others style. How cleverly they read each others mind. Witness the well-timed pass, never released until the other was speeded into position. I have to report that Jimmy Smith despite his sortie with pivot Kelly was a dandy leader, who took his goals in slick fashion. Few can turn a ball from the bye-line as well as he can. Johnstone, in Saints goal, had an unenviable time, but no blame to him. Jones, from Bradford City and Craven were too harassed. The newcomer isnt spectacular, but hes good. Linwood and those at each elbow were left high and dry for long spells. When they did go out in full cry, they showed they have the football. Ill say they got the worst of the breaks
