Match Trivia
Fully 10,000 spectators attended at Ibrox to witness this important game. Dickie was unable to turn out for Rangers, his place being taken by McPherson. The game in the first half was very fast the Saints being the first to assert themselves, but McPherson saved well, and play was carried to the other end where a centre by Campbell was headed through by the St Mirren goalkeeper, who misjudged his distance. Halftime result Rangers 1 goal: St Mirren 0. The visitors did not settle down to their game in the opening stages of the second half, but kept up a series of long kicks which were easily accounted for, and from a smart bit of work by Campbell, Speedie scored a second goal for Rangers. By steady pressure the Saints got well away, and Lindsay sent in a grand centre, which Moffat finished by rushing into the net. Rangers again scored through Speedie and shortly after St Mirren got a second point. Result Rangers 3 goals: St Mirren 2. The drawings amounted to close on £300.
