Match Trivia
The concluding game in this competition took place last night at Ibrox Park, Govan before 1000 spectators. The teams met a fortnight ago, but the game was stopped ten minutes before time owing to darkness with the Saints leading by 2 goals to 1. The weather last night was of the most disagreeable description. Having lost the toss, the Rangers kicked off against a strong breeze. The Saints were soon at Haddow’s goal, but the able defence of the Rangers back division kept them from scoring. Occasionally the ‘light blues’ had a look in, but they were severly handicapped by the strong wind against them. Brady and Laing each had a try for the Saints, but neither got the ball home. Coming away with a rush, the Rangers got a free kick 20 yards from Lindsay. The ball was well placed, and Gray with a neat heard scored the first point for the Rangers. The Saints put on a spurt after this, and ere five minutes had gone Wilson equalised from a judicious pass by Oswald. The whistle sounded shortly after. Halftime result – a draw 1 goal each. Without losing any time the game was resumed. With the wind at their backs, the Rangers soon made matters warm for the Saints, Barker got the ball past Lindsay, but an appeal for offside was sustained and the point went for nothing. From a break away on the right the Saints got well down on Haddow, and Laing secured a second goal for the Edinburgh team. The Rangers tried hard to equalise. They obtained a brace of corners, but nothing came of them, and although they pressed severly, the Saints defence was equal to all the demands made on it. No further scoring took place. Result St Bernards 2 goals: Rangers 1 goal. This result places the Saints third down the League table, and the Rangers fourth.
