Match Trivia
A holiday fixture between the above teams took place at Ibrox Park, Govan. Fully 1000 spectators were present. Having lost the toss, the Rangers kicked off against a pretty stiff breeze. A run on the Rangers right gave Kerr an opportunity, which he spoiled by shooting rashly. A corner for Rangers was placed by Steel, and A McCreadie got in a shot, but it also went past. A visit to Haddow’s end was productive of a corner. The ball was well placed by McLean, but McCall headed it over the bar. The Rangers front division came away in a body, and after some clever dodging in the corner, Steel centred, Kerr caught the pass, and with a smart shot he scored the first goal for the Rangers. Halftime result – Rangers 1 goal: Renton 0 goals. Without leaving the field, the players resumed the game, which was one of two 30’s. The Renton goal was first in danger, a long shot from McPherson being fisted out by Davie. Still keeping up the pressure, Blyth secured a second goal for the Rangers from a good pass by McPherson. This success of the Rangers was followed by an invasion of the Renton on Haddow’s charge. The Rangers back division, however was quite equal to all the calls made on it. A shot from White was saved just on the line by Haddow. The most exciting incidents of the game now took place in front of Davie. Shot after shot was sent in by the Rangers, but all were fruitless, as some one invariably blocked the way. Just before the close Steel put on a third goal for the Rangers. Final result – Rangers 3 goals: Renton 0 goals.
