Match Trivia

At Ibrox Rangers scored thrice in the first half – and then they asked trouble! They might have won by a handful, but as it turned out, Welsh rattled on two, and there is no saying what might have happened had the game lasted another ten minutes. For a brief period in the second half Birrell had to leave the field as result of a collision with Gordon, who also hot a nasty bruise above the right eve. The accident meant one needle stitch for ‘the Fifer.’ Play had not long started when Archibald swung across a beauty. Dr Paterson nodded it to Cunningham, and the Kirkcaldy keeper picked the ball out of the net. Once again Archibald got moving. He beat Robson easily, and sent across a ‘beauty.’ Paterson was in waiting, and with a first-time effort he collected No 2. Throughout the doctor’s footwork was perfect, and his crosses were most precise. Rangers’ third goal was Archibald’s own. Gordon headed on, the right-winger raced ahead, and made no mistake with a swift low shot, which did not give McDonald ‘an earthly.’ Settling down, the Ibrox team obliged with an exhibition, and no doubt the Rovers were intensely interested as they looked on. In the remaining time Bowie had a ‘cast-iron’ chance of adding to the total – but shot weakly! Later, however, James got one home. Archibald and Harry Anderson livened up matters, and it looked as if someone might have to go off. Raith kept on playing really attractive football, and Welsh eventually had the satisfaction of beating Lock. Rangers kept on playing, carelessly, and they all but paid the penalty. George Wilson crossed to Welsh, who again counted, young Smith, who played really well, just missing with his head prior to Lock being beaten
