Match Trivia

A well-snapped goal by Fyfe in the first minute of the game at Ibrox helped to make the first half a bright affair. Rangers were on their mettle as a result of it, and they played some hard driving football to get their heads in front. Cunningham and Morton partnered once more owing to Cairns not being quite fir, did a lot of pretty close passing, and the goals always looked coming for that quarter, but didn’t. Meiklejohn got the equaliser, and it was also the outcome of right-wing foraging that Muirhead received the opening for the second. After that, the amateurs, who had put up a very creditable resistance, always looked like losers. A Muirhead goal nine minutes after the restart put the issue beyond doubt. Gould saved grandy from Cunningham, Morton and Walls but, for the most part, the Ibrox forwards went easy. Scott got an injury in the second half, was off for about ten minutes, and subsequently was of little use. Manderson was also in the wars, and Rangers finished with him in the pavilion and Meiklejohn at right back. The best of the Queen’s Park team were Gould, Struthers, Young and Gillespie. The forwards could not stay the course. It was not one of the Rangers’ choicest exhibitions, but after they took the lead, they had little incentive. One excellent feature was Meiklejohn’s play at inside right. Robb saw little of the ball in the second half except from afar, which indicates that the men in front were good enough for the job in hand
