Match Trivia
Rangers are worthy Glasgow Charity Cup semi-finalist. In the first round tie at Ibrox last night they gave a skilful and refreshing display and over-whelmed Queen’s Park by 5-0. The amateurs were palpably weak at half-back and the result was that the forwards, who were clever individually, received poor support. As the score might suggest there was no denying the incisiveness of the Rangers’ vanguard. Cunningham opened the scoring when ten minutes had gone. The ball rebounded off an upright to Andrew from the third of three successive corner kicks, and his right-foot drive left McKay helpless. Four minutes later Henderson registered the second point with the best shot of the match. Templeton, Gorson and McDonald did clever work at the other end, but Robb was only in difficulties once. Willie scooped the ball round a post when Gordon shot from close range. On the whole the amateurs had done very well in the opening period, but they were given no scope after the interval. Rangers did practically all the aggressive work. A cute pass from Cunningham enabled Henderson to count the third point, and a minute later the centre-forward headed home an Archibald cross. Soon afterwards Morton was brought down in course of one of his elusive runs. Taking the kick himself, Allan deceived McKay with an angular drive. Rangers touched their best form. They exhibited skilful control of the ball and there was a fine understanding between all divisions. The amateurs’ defence was serviceable, but the half-backs were moderate throughout. Forwards, Templeton was tricky and resourceful, while McDonald and Gordon also comported themselves creditably
