Match Trivia

Before one of the best attendances of the season – fully 11,000 – the Rangers and Queen’s Park played their return League game at Ibrox Park. The turf was pretty heavy, but the conditions otherwise were perfect. The Queen’s by lovely forward play had all the game in the first 10 minutes, and scored through McGhee after five minutes play, while Kennedy had a goal disallowed. Irons then had to leave the field owing to a kick on the knee, and during his 30 minutes absence the Rangers simply stormed the Queen’s goal. The ball struck the bar and posts several time, and latterly Robertson equalised, and Graham adding a second, off a miskick, the Rangers led by 2 goals to 1 at halftime. The second half was not productive of such pretty football, but 10 minutes from time McColl equalised after a 40 yards run. Six minutes later Speedie put the Rangers ahead, it was a remarkably pretty game, but both teams were handicapped by having players injured, A Smith being limping and Irons useless. The gate was £239 17s 6d and the stands £40.
