Match Trivia

Ibrox Park was the scene of the first contest for the season, in the Glasgow League between these clubs. There was a surprisingly large attendance, they’re being about 11,000 present. The Rangers kicked off and were early on the aggressive through Miller and McPherson. The Queen’s soon asserted themselves, and by good passing by Wilson, McColl and Berry troubled Dickie frequently. The latter however was in grand form and saved repeatedly, twice in marvellous fashion. The game was most stubbornly contested, the Queen’s having rather more of the play than their opponents for whom Drummond and Gibson played well. At last Dickie was beaten by a hard drive from the right. To the end of this half the Queen’s were the superior executants especially forwards. Halftime – Queen’s Park 1 goal: Rangers 0. Resuming against the wind the Queen’s gave promise of maintaining their lead. The homesters not too well served by Neil and Miller at half could not often get within range of Walker, who was ably supported by D Stewart. Gillespie and Irons. A foul against Drummond almost resulted in another goal for the visitors, who afterwards fell away considerably. Attacking with great spirit, the Rangers pressed the Hampden eleven severely. From a free kick against McColl, Gibson equalised. The remaining twenty minutes were brimful of exciting passages, the Rangers being somewhat unlucky in adding to their score. Taken all through a draw was the correct result. For the Rangers the outstanding players were Dickie, Drummond, Gibson, Miller (forward) and McPherson. The Queen’s men of merit were D Stewart, Irons, D Wilson, Berry and McColl. Result a draw – 1 each
