Played at Ibrox Park last night in a downpour of rain, drawings (gate and stand) £28, estimated attendance 1000. Play was only a few minutes in progress when McLean centred, and McArthur failing to stay the progress of the ball, he was beaten by Paul close in. Bennett had a run shortly after, but was deprived of the ball by R Anderson when near goal. The Queen’s laying a free open game made good progress on the muddy pitch, and McArthur had several times to clear. The Rangers were occasionally attacking, but as a rule were easily got rid of whom near goal. Smith had a good run and shot, but Burnett cleared. Rangers had hard luck after this, several good shots just failing to beat the goalkeeper. A penalty was given against Law for bring down Main, and McColl failed to score, McArthur saving. The home team did most of the attacking, but could not score, the cross bar on one occasion preventing them equalised when Burnett was beaten. Bennett eventually put his side on level terms shortly before halftime. Halftime – 1 goal each. The playing pitch was in a deplorable condition owing to the incessant rain when the second half started. Paul had a fine run and shot early in this half, but McArthur saved. Some fine play by May and McPherson resulted in the latter giving the home team the lead. The Queen’s were now acting mainly on the defensive, and Bennett missed scoring from a good opening by Gilchrist. Paul a few minutes later just failed to equalise. Burnett saved the Queen’s repeatedly after this, and from a breakaway McLean got the better of McArthur. With a grand long shot McColl completely baffled McArthur, and the Queen’s again led. The Rangers forwards were ell held by the opposing defence of whom Pettigrew and Anderson excelled. Burnett saved often when he looked like being beaten. The Queen’s drew Paul back to strengthen the defence and although the opposition were unlucky in being the visitors played a surprisingly good game on the muddy ground, which cut up very much, and was dotted with pools long before the game finished in semi-darkness
