Match Trivia

Played at Ibrox Park, Govan last night before 5000 spectators. Unfortunately the weather was of the worst description. The teams were at full strength, the Rangers especially having a surprise packet out in Donald Gow and McInnes. The Rangers kicked off, Queen’s were first to press, but Dunbar spoiled their try. Five minutes after the start Kerr scored for the Rangers from a splendid return by Gow. The Queen’s retaliated, and from a free kick they equalised. Keeping at it, both teams put in some good work. Each goal was assailed in turn. From a fine run on the left, Lambie notched the second goal for the Queen’s. The Rangers settled at this reverse, took the game in hand, and after some fine individual runs, Gow equalised with a lovely shot from midfield. Even play followed, each end being visited in turn. Both teams had several corners, but all were fruitless. The play was of the fastest description. Finer play had not been seen on Ibrox Park this season. Each goal had many narrow escapes. The whistle sounded with the ball in midfield. Halftime result – Rangers 2 goals: Queen’s Park 2 goals. Without losing anytime the game was resumed. Rangers were first to press, but McCreadie sent the ball behind. The Queen’s were not long in having play at the other end, where Hamilton cleverly scored their third goal. The Rangers nettled at this reverse, put on the pressure. They tried hard to score, but the Queen’s defence defied all their efforts. Several corners fell to the ‘light blues’, but they made nothing of them. Five minutes before the close of McInnes put in a grand run, and passed to McPherson who equalised with a stinging shot. Time sounded three minutes after. Result – A draw 3 goals each. After several minutes consultation it was agreed to play an extra half hour. The game was re-entered with spirit, but after 3 minutes had gone the referee stopped the game owing to darkness. No further scoring was done.
