Match Trivia
There were close on 7000 spectators at Ibrox Park where these teams met in good football weather. With the wind in there favour Rangers attacked, after two grand tries by Smith, Adams saved from Dalrymple close in. The Queen’s broke away, and Paul seemed to have beaten Sinclair, but the referee after consulting both linesmen gave a corner kick. The visitors again attacked, and McPhee shot, but Sinclair saved, the Queen’s centre being given offside. There narrow escapes roused the Rangers who attacked Adam’s goal so determinedly that Kivlichan scored. He missed twice shortly after from good openings. Haltime – Rangers 1 goal: Queen’s Park 0. After the resumption Hope and Paul by clever wing play beat Gray and Cochrane, but Sinclair saved after dropping the ball. Queen’s again attacked and Sinclair again cleared. Dalrymple and Kivlichan broke away, but Richmond tackled well and cleared. After a spell of attacking by the Queen’s, Murphy scored after Sinclair had saved. The home team soon got the lead again through a brilliant effort by Smith, whose goal was one of the most marvellous ever seen at Ibrox. Kivlichan got a third point shortly after. The Queen’s played hard to the end, but without success. Result – Rangers 3 goals: Queen’s Park 1 goal. Gate money £163; stands £30 – total £193
