Match Trivia

Friendly match at Ibrox Park before 5000 spectators. Rangers having won the toss, the Queen’s kicked off, and by some clever passing the ball was sent to W Stewart, who shot along the ground for goal, Dickie cleared, and after some good tackling and placing by Murray, the Rangers latest recruit, Hyslop and Turnbull got away on the left. They were beaten off by Gillespie however but not for long. Low getting on the ball passed to Hamilton who in turn sent swiftly across to Turnbull. The latter rushed on and steadying himself, he clean beat ‘Robertson’. From the kick-off the visitors got well in on Dickie, but Drummond relieved. The Queen’s had their reward at last; clean beating the defence, and equalising through McColl. Hyslop with a strong drive, after a cute pass by Turnbull, beat ‘Robertson’, and gave his side the lead. The strangers were playing ten men, Lambie having been forced to retire owing to lameness shortly before the Rangers got their leading point. Following a slip by Drummond, Stewart shot strongly into Dickie, who saved but was beaten a minute later by Berry with a high oblique shot. Nothing but luck saved the Queen’s goal from downfall, the ball striking ‘Robertson’ and going past from a strong shot by Low. At halftime each side had 2 goals. Lambie was unable to resume, and the Queen’s had perforce to struggle along one short. The opening exchanges were somewhat sensational first W Stewart and then D Stewart coming within an ace of scoring. Offside against Low, who along with his old Parkhead partner, McNicol, made an effective wing, spoilt a good chance of increasing the Rangers total. A few minutes later ‘Robertson’ saved twice in brilliant style, much to the chagrin of Hamilton and McNicol. A few minutes later Turnbull, about a dozen yards from goal, let drive and scored the winning point. Result – Rangers 3: Queen’s Park 2.
