Match Trivia
There were 14,000 spectators at this match, which was played at Ibrox Park in very wet weather. Shortly after the start Campbell shot for goal, and Adam making a faulty clearance, Dickie scored. The Queen’s had a good run on Newbigging’s goal and Templeton equalised. A few minutes later Cunningham across a perfect centre, and Kyle gave his side the lead. In spite of the soft ground the pace was very fast, but slips were numerous on both sides. Vallance got injured and had to be carried off the field. Both goalkeepers were frequently tested ere halftime, when the Rangers led by 2 goals to 1. In the second half, although a man short the Queen’s played pluckily. Smith and Kyle on the one side and Fitchie on the other led the other forwards finely, but over the backs were too much for the forwards. Smith after beating Key and Young centred, but Thomson got the ball away, and then Fitchie, after brilliant play passed to Hamilton, who drove for goal, Newbigging saved. A good run by Campbell and Cunningham resulted in another goal for the home team, Cunningham scoring. The visitors played brilliantly in the closing minutes, and Templeton scored while Campbell was in the pavilion, owing to an injury. Campbell immediately returned to the field, and the Queen’s still going strongly, had little luck in not equalising. Result – Rangers 3 goals: Queen’s Park 2 goals. Drawings – Gate money £349; stand £60 – total £409.
